Q. What is the Buy with Confidence Scheme you are a member of about?
AThe aim of the Buy with Confidence scheme is to help consumers to avoid rip-offs and cowboys by providing a list of reputable local businesses, in a wide range of different trades. Member companies have been independently checked by staff from the local authority Trading Standards Service against the Scheme rules.

Q.How can I be sure that the businesses on the Buy With Confidence scheme are reliable?

A. All members are subjected to stringent checks by Trading Standards staff to ensure their trustworthiness and compliance with the law. Levels of consumer complaints against members are also monitored on a regular basis.


Q: You mention the NICEIC alot but what are they?
A:NICEIC is the electrical contracting industry’s independent voluntary body for electrical installation matters throughout the UK. We offer industry-leading certification services, Building Regulations Schemes, products and support to electrical contractors and many other trades within the construction industry..
A: NICEIC = National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting (UK)
A:The NICEIC Insurance Backed Warranty covers work undertaken by contractors registered to the NICEIC Domestic Installer Scheme that is notifiable to Building Control.  The purpose of the Warranty is to protect consumers should any work be found not to comply with the Building Regulations under circumstances where the contractor is no longer in business to undertake the necessary remedial work.

The financial limit placed on the remedial work is £25,000 in respect of any one installation per period of insurance and the warranty is valid for a period of six years from the date of completion of the original work.

A:Since the 1st January 2005 all electrical work in dwellings (houses) has needed to comply with the Building Regulations electrical requirements known as Part P. Plus they must be carried out by persons who are competent to do the work. The best option for you is to find an electrician who can self certify their own work through a Competent Person Scheme.
